Visitor Tips & Essentials
Planning your trip to Jackson Hole is easy with a little local insight. From unpredictable mountain weather to early-morning start times, these quick tips will help you stay warm, safe, and ready for every moment of Hill Climb weekend.
Weather in March
Jackson Hole’s March forecast is a mixed bag of sunshine, powder, and surprise storms — part of what makes it so magical.
Expect temperatures between 20 °F (–6 °C) in the mornings and 40 °F (4 °C) by afternoon. Snow King’s base can feel spring-like while the summit stays deep in winter. Pack for layers, bring waterproof outerwear, and keep an extra pair of dry socks in your daypack.
What to Pack
Hill Climb spectators are pros at mountain preparedness.
Here’s what our longtime volunteers never forget:
Warm layers: thermal base, fleece, and a windproof shell.
Waterproof boots with good traction — the base area can be icy.
Hat, gloves, neck gaiter, and sunglasses (yes, snow glare is real).
Sunscreen & lip balm: high-altitude sun is strong even on cold days.
Portable chair or seat pad: hillside viewing gets chilly fast.
Cash or card: vendors and food trucks are available on-site.
Pro-tip: bring a small backpack so your hands are free for clapping, cameras, and cocoa.
Event Access & Parking
The Hill Climb takes place at Snow King Mountain, just a few blocks from Jackson’s Town Square. Gates open daily at 8:00 AM with races starting around 9:00 AM.
General Admission areas are first-come, first-served; VIP ticket holders have access to reserved viewing decks.
Parking near the venue is limited — use free Town Shuttle or Hill Climb Express buses running every 15 minutes. Bike racks and ADA-accessible drop-offs are available at the base.
Plan to arrive early and allow time for a short walk from your shuttle stop.
Family & Accessibility
The Hill Climb is a family-friendly event with viewing areas suitable for all ages. Stroller and wheelchair-accessible zones are located near the base lodge. Restrooms and warming tents are available throughout the day.
Children under 10 years old receive free General Admission when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Ear protection is recommended for little ones — the sleds are loud! Our volunteers are always nearby to lend a hand or help you find your way.
Health & Altitude Awareness
Jackson Hole sits at roughly 6,200 feet (1,890 m) — and Snow King’s summit climbs even higher.
If you’re visiting from lower elevation, take it easy the first day: drink plenty of water, limit alcohol, and rest between activities. If you feel light-headed or short of breath, step into the shade or visit first-aid at the base.
Hydration and pacing will keep you ready to enjoy the full weekend.
Safety & Etiquette
The Hill Climb thrives on respect — for the racers, the volunteers, and the mountain itself. Stay behind marked barriers, follow instructions from event staff, and never enter the course area.
Keep dogs leashed (or better yet, cozy at home), dispose of trash properly, and help keep Snow King beautiful. Photography and filming are welcome, but please stay out of racer lines of sight.
A little courtesy keeps the climb safe for everyone.
Local Connectivity
Jackson Hole has reliable cellular service, but signal may weaken on the upper hill. Most hotels and cafés offer free Wi-Fi.

See You on the Mountain
Whether you’re traveling across the country or across town, your adventure ends at the base of Snow King Mountain — where engines roar, snow flies, and the spirit of Jackson Hole comes alive.
