Jackson Hole Airport (JAC)
The only commercial airport inside a U.S. national park, about 25 minutes north of town. Direct service from a dozen-plus major cities in winter. Book early — March is busy.

US-89 from the north or south, US-26/287 over Togwotee from the east. Winter passes close in storms — check conditions before you commit to a route.

START buses run town and Teton Village routes; hotel shuttles and rideshare cover the rest. Most visitors staying downtown never need a car for the event.

Pick Your Basecamp
Hill Climb weekend is one of the valley’s busiest. Book by January if you can — and decide first how close to the hill you want to wake up.
Downtown Jackson
Walk to the venue, the Town Square, and dinner. The best choice if you want to leave the car parked all weekend. Books out first.
Teton Village
About 30 minutes out at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Bigger properties, ski-in mornings, easy trailer parking.
Highway 89 & Beyond
Hotels north toward the airport and south toward Hoback trade walkability for rates and parking space. Alpine and Star Valley stretch the budget further.
We don’t run a booking service — the local tourism board keeps the most complete, current list of lodging across the valley, from hostels to guest ranches.
Fuel for a Day on the Hill
Before the Gates
Downtown coffee shops open early and know what a 7am race day looks like. Grab a thermos — the base area gets cold in the shade.
At the Venue
Food trucks and vendors run all four days in the village at the base. Bring cash as a backup; cell service gets congested with 10,000 people on one mountain.
Dinner in Town
The Town Square area is walkable and dense with options, from burgers to serious dining. Reservations matter on Hill Climb Saturday.
A Drink Afterward
The saloons here are a tradition of their own. If you rode or raced, somebody will want to hear about it.

Parking, Gates, and Getting In
Dress for a Mountain, Not a Forecast
March in Jackson can be twenty below at the gate and shirt-sleeve warm by afternoon. Spectating means standing still on snow for hours — dress for that, not for the walk from the car.

While You’re in the Valley
The National Elk Refuge
Thousands of elk winter just north of town. Sleigh rides run through March and take about an hour — an easy, genuinely memorable morning.
Grand Teton & Yellowstone
The Tetons are right there. Winter access is limited but spectacular; Yellowstone interior travel is snowcoach-and-guide territory this time of year.
Museums, Galleries & Shops
The Town Square, the art galleries, and the local museums fill a weather day nicely — and the antler arches are the photo everyone takes home.

How early should I book lodging?+
By January if you can. Hill Climb weekend lands in one of the valley’s busiest stretches, and the closest downtown properties go first.
Do I need a car?+
Not if you stay downtown — Snow King is walkable from the Town Square and START buses cover the rest. A car helps if you are lodging out of town, riding, or hauling a sled.
What is the weather actually like in March?+
Variable. Expect anywhere from well below freezing to sunny and mild, sometimes in the same day. Dress in layers and plan for standing on snow.
Is the event good for kids?+
Yes — it is a family tradition here, and kids 12 & under get in free with a ticketed adult. Bring extra warm layers for them; spectating is a standing-still sport.
Can I bring my own sled and ride while I am here?+
Absolutely, and plenty of visitors do. Register through WyoTrails, read the Bridger-Teton avalanche forecast daily, and carry beacon, probe, and shovel with the training to use them.
What if the event gets cancelled?+
It happens — 2026 was cancelled for conditions. Ticket holders are notified directly with refund or transfer options, but book lodging with a cancellation policy you are comfortable with.
